Production typically begins shortly after your order is submitted. Most orders are produced and dispatched within 2 to 5 business days. Once dispatched, delivery is typically 4 to 6 days. All orders ship with tracking and you'll receive a confirmation email with your tracking link as soon as your order is on the way.
Yes. We fulfill orders from production facilities in the UK, EU, and United States, so your order is produced and shipped from the facility closest to you. This keeps delivery fast, helps minimize import fees, and reduces the carbon footprint of your order. For delivery outside the United States, select a different region using the selector in the footer.
Because every piece is made to order, production can begin shortly after your order is confirmed. Email us at info@silvergrainpress.com as soon as possible and we'll do our best to help, but we may not be able to make changes if production has started.
No, all Silvergrain Press products are made to order from within the United States, so there's no customs or import fees to worry about.
The Premium Hardcover is our flagship format with a rigid matte hardcover designed for display and permanence. The Studio Softcover uses the same HP Indigo printing and PUR binding in a lighter, contemporary format with a less rigid matte softcover. The Layflat Edition opens completely flat with no gutter, making it the only format that does full justice to panoramic and full-spread compositions. It also comes in our largest format (11.7" / 297mm square) - large enough to resolve the full detail in high-resolution images.
It depends on the format, and we've selected a photography-first paper to complement each format. The Premium Hardcover uses 200gsm gloss-coated stock for maximum color saturation and contrast, and represents the most familiar photographic paper stock in the range. The Studio Softcover uses 120gsm Mohawk Superfine Eggshell Ultrawhite - an uncoated matte fine art paper with excellent tonal reproduction and favored by high-end publishers around the globe. The Layflat Edition uses a 190gsm Mohawk proPhoto gloss-coated stock; featuring deep blacks and rich saturation and is optimized for photographic color reproduction. All papers are acid-free and archival-rated.
All our photobooks accept between 24 and 120 pages, but include 40 or 32 as standard in the base price. We recommend one photo per page, because if you're printing your work we say print big! We feel there's little point to printing photos the same size they appear in a social media post. Of course, you can choose your layouts and final page count during the easy design process - pricing updates in real time for extra pages. Note that the minimum 24 pages will result in a thinner-feeling book.
The Premium Hardcover book is available in A4 (8.3" x 11.7" / 210mm x 297mm) Portrait and Landscape, as well as Square (8.3" / 210mm) formats. The Studio Softcover is available in A4 Portrait and A5 Portrait (5.8" x 8.3" / 148mm x 210mm). The Layflat Edition is available in A4 Portrait and Landscape, and also includes a Large Square format (11.7" / 297mm). Framed prints are available in four sizes from 12x18" up to 24x36".
Photo books are printed on HP Indigo digital press - the leading standard in professional digital photographic printing, used by high-end print labs worldwide. HP Indigo uses liquid ElectroInk rather than dry toner, producing continuous-tone output with a wider colour gamut and finer detail than conventional digital printing. Framed prints are produced using the same giclee printing process used in fine art galleries worldwide with heavyweight matte paper from legendary paper mill Hahnemuhle in Germany. All images are printed at 300dpi to ensure crisp details, and our online editor will warn you if an image's resolution is too low for its chosen size and format.
An important question, of course! We can offer a few tips to ensure accurate color reproduction. Firstly, we recommend exporting in Adobe RGB (1998) for the widest color gamut through to print. Next, you should be aware that prints on paper will typically appear darker than the same image on a backlit screen. So, to compensate for this when editing for print, we recommend you reduce your monitor brightness to around 50% before making your final exposure and brightness adjustments and exporting for print. The beautiful thing about physical paper is that different stocks absorb light in different ways, and we've chosen each of our papers for their unique characteristics suiting each piece in our collection. Framed prints, for example, take advantage of the matte Hahnemühle paper to reduce glare and reflections distracting from your image when it's displayed in your home.
No. We do not auto-correct, color-adjust, or otherwise modify your images. What you submit is what we print. If any images in your design fall below the recommended resolution for your chosen format and size, our online editor will flag them before you place your order.
Every order is covered by our Print Quality Promise. If your book or print arrives damaged, has a print quality issue, or isn't right for any reason, contact us within 14 days of delivery at info@silvergrainpress.com with your order number and a brief description of the issue. In most cases we'll arrange a free reprint and replacement order. You don't need to return the item.
Because every piece is made to order specifically for you, we don't accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. If something is wrong with your order, we will make it right according to our Print Quality Promise.
We reproduce your files exactly as submitted, so please review your layout carefully before placing your order. Our editor will flag low-resolution images, but it's your responsibility to check cropping, text, and layout choices before confirming. If you spot an error immediately after ordering, email us straight away - if production hasn't started, we may be able to help.
Yes. Creating an account lets you save your designs, return to them later, and track your orders. It only takes a moment to set up.
Each book format has a base price that includes the base number of pages: 40 for Premium Hardcover and Studio Softcover, 32 for the Layflat Edition. If you add pages beyond that minimum, pricing updates in real time as you design so there are no surprises at checkout. Minimum 24 pages, and maximum 120 pages for all formats.
Yes. You can order multiple copies of any book at checkout. If you're looking to order in larger quantities, email us at info@silvergrainpress.com and we'll let you know what's possible.
