Why Silvergrain
Paper Quality
Every format uses a paper chosen for its photographic reproduction qualities. From 200gsm gloss coated for the hardcover and layflat formats to Mohawk Superfine matte for the softcover (seen here), each stock is acid-free, archival, and optimized for HP Indigo presses—the highest standard for digital printing.
Binding & Craft
All Silvergrain Press books use PUR binding, the highest grade adhesive binding in commercial book production. Stronger and more flexible than standard EVA binding, PUR creates a true polymer bond that opens flat, tolerates repeated use, and holds its integrity for generations.
Information
Everything you need to know before placing your first order.
Each format uses a paper selected for its printing characteristics. The Premium Hardcover uses 200gsm gloss coated paper. The Studio Softcover uses Mohawk Superfine Eggshell Ultrawhite at 120gsm, an uncoated fine art stock. The Layflat Edition uses 190gsm gloss coated lustre paper. All papers are acid-free and archival rated for 100+ years.
We purposefully include 60% more pages by default than other services for two reasons: firstly, to encourage you to print your photos larger—ideally one photo per page—and secondly, to ensure your book feels like a book, not a pamphlet. Premium Hardcover and Studio Softcover books include 40 pages as standard, and Layflat Editions include 32. You can adjust page count during the design process, but we recommend printing with at least the default, though the minimum is 24 pages.
Unfortunately no, as each book is made specifically for you we don't have a way to create a smaller sample. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to us and we'll be happy to help address any reservations you may have.
Production typically begins shortly after your order is submitted. Most orders are produced and dispatched within 2 to 5 business days. Once dispatched, delivery is typically 4 to 6 days. All orders ship with tracking and you'll receive a confirmation email with your tracking link as soon as your order is on the way.
It depends on the format, and we've selected a photography-first paper to complement each format. The Premium Hardcover uses 200gsm gloss-coated stock for maximum color saturation and contrast, and represents the most familiar photographic paper stock in the range. The Studio Softcover uses 120gsm Mohawk Superfine Eggshell Ultrawhite - an uncoated matte fine art paper with excellent tonal reproduction and favored by high-end publishers around the globe. The Layflat Edition uses a 190gsm Mohawk proPhoto gloss-coated stock; featuring deep blacks and rich saturation and is optimized for photographic color reproduction. All papers are acid-free and archival-rated.
High-resolution JPEG files exported in RGB (Adobe 1998) or sRGB are a safe default for most projects. The Editor accepts files up to 50mb in size, so don't be shy about uploading large files. PNG and HEIC (including HEIF) are also supported.
